Gin Rummy
-
Taking a deck of regular playing
cards, shuffle the deck and have the dealer distribute 7 cards to each
player, alternating back and forth between the players.
-
Players try to arrange cards
as traditionally done: by number sequence, by suit (clubs, diamonds,
hearts, spades), in pairs, in three of a kind, in four of a kind.
-
To request new cards, the player
says Dame _____. [dah-may _____] (meaning Give me ____) and
the quantity needed, discarding an equal number of cards as requested.
-
The object is for the player
to make matches according to categories as noted in item 2) and then to
place them down, eventually using all his or her cards. When this
moment is reached, the player says "Gin".
-
As matches are placed down,
the player must state what the match is in Spanish for that match to count.
For example, Yo tengo
_____ de ________. [yoh tehn-goh _____
(quantity) day ______ (type)]
