The ESP's mission is to bridge cultural barriers, educate young children, and prepare them for life in our world community through teaching Spanish.

Polvorones
(Crumb Cakes)

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups + 1/3 cup of flour
  • powdered sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon of grated lemon rind
  • 1 3/4 cups of shortening
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 3/4 cups of sugar
  1. Mix the flour, the shortening, the baking soda, the sugar, the egg yolks, and the grated lemon rind in a bowl.
  2. Knead with your fingertips to mix all the ingredients.
  3. Spread the dough on a floured board and cut the dough with a round cutter or a glass to form circles.
  4. Place in the oven pre-heated to 350 degrees, and bake until the dough is golden. Remove from the oven.
  5. Sprinkle the cakes with powdered sugar while still warm.
